My New Home

So updates are a little slower now, I have been so used to being able to paint the majority of the day and push pieces out quickly. But I got a job so I have been trying to do more small pieces so I can keep putting as many out as possible. This is a repaint of a piece from years ago. Seemed to be a favorite with a lot of people and I have been wanting to go back to it for a while now.  Small piece but I am super happy with how it turned out!

Enjoy!

Head in the Clouds …Number 15

I think I have done this piece in different variations atleast 15 times now and I still love doing it.  Everytime I try and find a way to change it a little and I figure by the time I am in my sixties I will have finally perfected it. This one is on an old skateboard deck. The piles are everywhere and I might as well recycle them into some art!

Enjoy!

I possibly have the worst lighting in my studio to photograph paintings and they never compare to how they look in person but here it is all finished up!!!

Humm-a-lumma-ing-bird

So a while back I did a piece of this kinda abstracted looking flower and a bee and really liked how it turned out. So heres round two of it. Switch it up make it look a little more like a legit flower( flowers are weird looking anyway so legit is anything ) and put in a bird. I got so many new ideas after doing this piece..MY MIND IS GOING TO EXPLODE!!!!

Enjoy!

Display Drums- 1 of 2

A new piece for a  good friend, I’ve done a few for him in the past and he always has some cool ideas of what he wants. The newest is a display piece painted on a drum. The first drum is a lot simpler, the second one(coming in a few days) is going to be a lot crazier. You might be able to play it but it might be a little safer to just hang it.

Enjoy!

Just had to post this cause the sides looked super clean with pure white sids and black hardware.

Tree-A-Palooza

So this is a repaint of a piece I did about a year ago. Something about trees that I’m always drawn back to, maybe its the mindless amount of tiny lines you have to put in. Anyways this is one of my favorite piece i’ve done recently(I know I say that about every piece when its done) but this one was different cause I actually got a chance to practice shading which I never do.  This ones already sold but I had so much fun with it anyone else interested in one i’d love to do more!  Also there is few pictures of the process of this one. Im not sure what cause it but the light affected it so much. The background color changes in every picture and the glare was always there. It took like 100 tries but the finished picture turned out perfect!

Enjoy!

Background color with light streaks

trunk

right side coming in, this piece was so weird because until the end it felt like it was so unbalanced with the amount of branches on each side

still super unbalanced

I have a horrible habit when I’m working on pieces like this with super fine lines, after I put in like 2 or 3 lines I lick the brush so the point is sharp again. By the end of 30 minutes of painting my mouth is always covered in black paint

All done! Shading was fun after I started to get the hang of it, and branch overlaps added so much to it. It looks good in the picture but cant even compare to it in person. So stoked

Second Hand Swimmer

I’ve got piles laying everywhere, stacks of old broken skateboards.  After staring at them for too long I decided to try and chop one up and do a cutout style painting on it. Such a change from cutting thin masonite to trying to get through seven layers of thin ply. Also the concave of the board gives it that cool bowed look. Another piece like it already started, I got plenty of boards to try and turn into art!

Enjoy!

7.75″ x 11.5″ – $40

Beauty in Death…Take 2

I think cutouts have to my favorite pieces to work with .   This one in an old piece I did a while back  and it was time to do a repaint on it.  I love repaints cause you can really see the progression you’ve made since the first.  Check out the difference (http://hobbsart.com/progression/beauty-in-death)  So here is the new version of “Beauty in Death”.
